Legal Notice
WHEREAS, on the 10th day of September,2025 pursuant to Section 105 of the Town Law and Section 181 of the Town Law, the Board of Fire Commissioners of the Chateaugay Brainardsville Fire District confirmed that the Annual Fire District Budget Hearing will be conducted with reference to the Annual Fire District Budget for the fiscal year 2027 on Tuesday, October 20th, 2026 commencing at 6:00PM a the Chateaugay Fire Department located at 2 Lake Street, Chateaugay, NY and
WHEREAS, the Board of Fire Commissioners is required to adopt a proposed budget at least 21 days before October 20, 2026, so that it is available for public inspection prior to the budget hearing.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Fire Commissioners of the Chateaugay Brainardsville Fire District has adopted a proposed Annual Fire District Budget for 2027 as of this date for purposes of discussion and review at the Budget Hearing to be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2026 and a copy of the proposed budget is available at the office of the Town Clerk of the Town of Chateaugay, Town of Brainardsville and at the office of the Chateaugay Brainardsville Fire District Secretary at 2 Lake St. Chateaugay, New York, where it may be inspected by any interested person during office hours. In addition, a copy of the proposed budget is posted on the Town of Chateaugay's and Town of Brainardsville's website, and copies of the proposed budget will be available on the night of the said hearing.
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the aforesaid budget will be presented to the residents and taxpayers of Chateaugay Brainardsville Fire District and to the Board of Fire Commissioners of the Chateaugay Brainardsville Fire District, for their respective consideration at this public hearing and for the purpose of considering the said budget and hearing all persons interested in the subject concerning same on Tuesday October 20, 20266 commencing at 6:00PM at the Fire District's Headquarters Building located at 2 Lake Street, Chateaugay, New York.
This is notice is being publicized and posted in accordance with the provisions of Public Officers Law and Town Law of the State of New York by order of the Board of Fire Commissioners of the Chateaugay Brainardsville.

What is the Chateaugay Brainardsville Fire District?
The Chateaugay Brainardsville Fire District (CBFD) is an independent unit that ensures fire and ambulance services are available to the residents of the Town and Village of Chateaugay and the Brainardsville area of the Town of Bellmont. Established under New York State Municipal Law, the CBFD has the authority to tax residents of the covered communities.
The tax, which appears on the January tax bill, funds the Fire Department and Ambulance Squad. In other words, the tax money:

provides and maintains the fire station

buys the fire trucks and ambulance vehicles;

pays for the fuel that runs the vehicles along with
-
the protection gear the fire fighters wear when fighting a fire;

all the supplies used on the ambulances;

and pays for the heat, electricity and everything else needed to provide fire and ambulance services.
The Fire District is managed by an elected Board of Fire Commissioners. It is their responsibility to organize, operate, maintain, and equip fire companies. They are charged with adopting rules and regulations, prescribing the duties of the members, enforcing discipline, and providing for public drills, parades, funerals, inspections, and reviews of the fire department. Commissioners do not fight fires unless they are also members of the fire department.
Meetings are held the second Tuesday of the month at the Fire Station. Residents of the covered communities and the area are invited and welcome to attend the meetings.
